The CFUW Salt Spring Island Club believes in assisting women to help better themselves through continuing their education.
An award of $3,000.00 shall be made to an adult woman returning to school for post secondary studies or training leading toward credentials recognized by a profession or trade. Preference will be given to a woman who is supporting a dependent child or children. If no applicant is considered eligible and/or suitable in any given year then no award shall be made for that year.
The following criteria are to be used in the selection of an adult woman returning to school:
A. Selection criteria for an adult woman wishing to continue her education:
- Applicants must be a resident of the Southern Gulf Islands (SS Island, Mayne, Galiano, Saturna, North &South Pender)
- Applicants must have been out of school for at least a year. The applicant may currently be completing her secondary education after having been out of school for at least one year.
- Applicants must be accepted by an accredited institution (Community College, Vocational School, University or a certified online study program)
B. Applicants shall provide the following with their application:
- A personal statement which includes their educational goals and plans.
- A resume including educational history.
- Two signed letters of reference.
- A copy of letter of acceptance from the accredited educational institution.
C. General information:
- The availability of the bursary will be advertised through local media.
- The deadline for applications will be April 30, 2022.
- Applications are to be directed to the Bursary Committee of CFUW Salt Spring Island, either by mail or hand delivered to Meadowbrook, #100 – 121 Atkins Rd. (no email applications will be accepted.)
- The successful applicant will be notified by July 1, 2022.
- Funds will be released to the recipient with proof of registration from the accredited institution.
- Funds must be claimed by the end of the calendar year in which the bursary is awarded.
- A recipient may apply for the bursary in subsequent years if able to demonstrate continued financial need and satisfactory achievement.
